5.8 MAGNITUDE EARTHQUAKE JOLTS JAMMU AND KASHMIR, THIRD IN THREE DAYS
An earthquake of magnitude 5.8 hit Jammu and Kashmir in the early hours of Tuesday, the third to hit the union territory in three days, reports PTI.
However, there were no reports of any damage.
The earthquake occurred at 7am and its epicenter was is Tajikistan, according to the officials. Strong tremors were felt in most parts of the Kashmir Valley, including Srinagar, Kishtwar and Doda districts. Tremors were also felt in Jammu, they said.
On Sunday, another earthquake, with a magnitude of 4.4 on the Richter Scale, in less than 24 hours had hit the state of Gujarat. The National Center for Seismology (NCS) told that an earthquake with a magnitude of 4.4 on the Richter Scale hit 83 km northwest (NW) of Rajkot, Gujarat at 12:57 pm today.
