Endangered Asian Elephant dies after being electrocuted by live wire

An endangered Asian Elephant died after it came in contact with exposed live wire and was electrocuted to death in Teknaf, Cox's Bazar early yesterday.

The elephant died at the Moricchaghona area in the Hnila union, reports. 

Mohammad Salauddin, a resident of the Hnila union told The Daily Star there had been quite a few incidents of elephant deaths in this area in the same manner before.

"The power line hangs so low that a six feet person could easily come in contact with it," he added.

Humayun Kabir, divisional forest officer of Cox's Bazar (south) said the area where the elephant died is under private ownership and they have sent a team of veterinary doctors and other officials to the spot.
