Vanessa O’Brien, famous British mountaineer, meets COAS
Famous mountaineer, Vanessa O’Brien met Chief of Army Staff( COAS) Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa on Friday.
Vanessa is the only woman to climb the world’s highest Mount Everest Peak and dive to the world’s deepest point, the Challenger Deep. She also carried Pakistan’s flag to the peak. In the meeting, COAS appreciated her achievements and thanked her for supporting tourism in Pakistan as its goodwill ambassador.
Director-General, Inter-Services Public Relations (DG ISPR) shared the pictures from the meeting on an official Twitter account.
“Ms. Vanessa O’Brien met #COAS. She is the only woman ever to climb 2 the world’s highest pt Mount Everest & dive 2 world’s deepest pt Challenger Deep, also carrying Pak flag. COAS appreciated her achievements & thanked her 4 promoting Pak as a goodwill ambassador,” wrote DGISPR in a tweet.
Vanessa even met Pakistan’s President Arif Alvi and presented him the flag she carried to the K2 and Challenger Deep, at Aiwan-e-Sadar.

Vanessa is visiting Pakistan these days. She met a famous Pakistani mountaineer, Nazir Sabir, as well. “Back in #Pakistan – the best place to start is #FriendsReunion@NazirSabirExped#climbing #tourism #Islamabad,” wrote Vanessa in a tweet. She also posted her picture with Nazir Sabir on social media.
Vanessa Audi Rhys O’Brien is a British and American mountaineer, explorer, aquanaut, author, and former business executive. On June 12, 2020, O’Brien became the first woman to reach Earth’s highest and lowest points, receiving a Guinness World Record.
She is also the first American and British woman to climb K2, due to her dual nationality, on 28th July 2017. She successfully led the team of 12 members to the summit on her third attempt.
